FAQ
What is a heat pump and how does it work?
A heat pump is a device that extracts heat from a source (air, water or ground) and transfers it to another place, usually a home or business premises. It works in the same way as a refrigerator, but in reverse. This video gives a clear explanation:
Are heat pumps reliable?
According to the International Energy Agency, they are three to five times more efficient than gas boilers. Around 20 million heat pumps are now used in Europe, and more will be installed to reach carbon neutrality by 2050.
From the smallest units to large industrial installations, heat pumps operate through a refrigerant cycle which allows to capture and transfer energy from air, water and ground to provide heating, cooling and hot water. Due to its cyclical nature, this process can be repeated over and over again.
I live in an apartment, can I still install a heat pump?
Any type of home, including high-rise buildings, is suitable for the installation of heat pumps.
How long do heat pumps typically last?
Heat pumps usually last 10-15 years, but well-maintained ones can last up to 20-25 years.
Who is We Heat?
Weheat is a proud Dutch company, based in Duizel, located in the innovative Brainport region. They are responsible for the entire process of the heat pump – from design and development to production. They proudly contribute to Dutch technical innovation and strive for a more sustainable future with their product designed entirely in the Netherlands.
How much noise does the Blackbird heat pump make?
With a noise level of just 49dB(A), Weheat’s Blackbird is practically whisper quiet. This is measured according to the EN-12102 standard at a distance of one meter, comparable to the volume of a soft conversation.
What is the SCOP of the Blackbird heat pump?
SCOP represents an average efficiency value over an entire heating season and is important to assess the annual performance of a heat pump. The Blackbird’s SCOP for low-temperature heating in an average climate is 4.7.
What does all-electric mean?
‘All-electric ready’ means that the hybrid version of the Blackbird heat pump can easily be converted to the all-electric version. This does not require the installation of an entirely new heat pump. Conversion to an all-electric version is made possible by a software update, the installation of additional piping and the installation of a boiler tank. This ensures flexibility and preparation for a future without dependence on fossil fuels.
What can I expect when installing the Blackbird?
The installation of a Blackbird heat pump is carried out by an expert installer and involves several steps. First, the heat pump is installed outside on a flat surface. In addition, an indoor unit and possibly a buffer tank are installed near your boiler . These components are then connected to your existing boiler, meter box and thermostat. To enable this installation, we will make certain modifications to your home.
What is the warranty on the Blackbird?
In the first 2 years, we offer a full exchange guarantee. Between the third and fifth year, we offer a partial warranty on parts that installers can replace independently. This includes 100% cover cost for parts such as the fan, top cover and legs. In addition, during this period we facilitate a full exchange, where 30%, 60% or 80% of the new price is non-refundable, respectively.
How does the Blackbird work?
In short, the Blackbird extracts energy from the outside air and converts it into usable energy, for heating or cooling a home, with high efficiency. How exactly does it do this? The heat pump is a monoblock design where all the refrigerant components are in the outdoor unit. Heat from the outside air is converted in that outdoor unit. Via the condenser, that heat is then released via central heating pipes to the indoor unit. The indoor unit then releases the heat to the heating system, such as radiator or underfloor heating. Thus, a home is heated with heat from outside, a renewable energy source that is inexhaustible.
